Bible

                               BIBLE Syllabus – 6th Grade

The sixth grade Bible curriculum focuses on the study of Old and New Testament Bible characters related to our character education traits. Our goal is to teach students how to apply these lessons to their daily lives and follow the Godly examples given to us from the Bible.  We will also include some lessons on manners and we will also provide time for devotions and prayer requests each week.

We have weekly memory verses that relate to our specific study or to a life application of the principle we have studied. Each nine weeks' grade will be based on memory verse quizzes 20%, daily grades 20%, regular tests and service hours 50%, and the nine weeks test 10% .

BIBLE SERVICE HOURS

Each student is required to do 3 hours of service per 9 weeks. A service hour is described as a specific job or action for which you are not rewarded or paid, but is considered helpful to someone else. Service hours do not include household chores for which the student is already responsible. A maximum of 1 hour will be accepted in service to the immediate family (those who live under the same roof). Two hours of service are required outside the "home". Please be aware of others who are in need of our help.

You will need to fill out a sheet of paper and have it signed by the person for whom you worked. Service hours will be due before the end of the last week of the report card period. These service hours count as a test grade in Bible. All hours must be served during the 9 weeks period.

Earth Science

Course Description: Earth Science is the study of Earth and Space. Before we actually begin studying the actual Earth, we study about the scientific method, how we make scientific measurements, and graphs. During the year we will go from the deepest part inside Earth to outer space and black holes and everywhere in between. We’ll study plate tectonics, earthquakes and volcanoes, rocks and minerals, the atmosphere along with weather and climate, oceans, and natural resources. We will finish off with the solar system including stars, planets, and galaxies.

Homework: Students are given homework most every night. We often start homework during class. All homework is to be completed and brought to class the day it is due in order to receive full credit. “Students attending class without completed assignments (homework) may turn in work one day late may receive 70% credit; work turned in two days late may be made-up for 50% credit. Work turned in after the second day will not receive credit. Over-due daily work and homework must be turned in before the student may practice in extra-curricular activities.” (Student handbook, page 9 - 10)
Evaluation: Evaluation is based on the following: Classwork/Quizzes 25%; homework 25%; chapter tests and projects 40%, and the nine weeks exam 10%.
Extra Credit: Two points extra credit is earned when the student returns graded chapter tests the next day, with a parent's signature.
Make-up Work: “Missed daily work, homework, or quizzes must be made-up the next day after returning from a single-day absence. Multiple-day absences may allow as many days for make-up as days missed.” See page 9 and 10 of the student handbook for other details about make-up work.
Electronic Books: The textbook company has provided us with a CD that has the entire book on it. If you would like your child to have one, please let me know. You will be allowed to use the CD to load the textbook on to your computer, then return the CD to class. That way, students could leave the book at school in their locker and not have to carry it back and forth. We are glad to offer that option.
Safety Contract: A safety contract will be sent home to be signed and returned regarding the safe use of equipment in class activities.
