Semifinalists are designated on a state representational basis. They are the highest scoring entrants in each state. NMSC provides scholarship application materials to Semifinalists through their high schools. To be considered for a National Merit® Scholarship, Semifinalists must advance to Finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards and all other requirements explained in the information provided to each Semifinalist.

Boyd-Buchanan School congratulates Clayton Parker and Margaret Rox for being named National Merit Semi-Finalists. Students at BBS since elementary, Clayton and Margaret have continually pushed themselves to achieve excellence both in and out of the classroom.
Clayton, son of Clay and Barbara ('85) Parker, has been named a Top Scholar for each year since 6th grade. His academic honors include being inducted into the National Honor Society, named an AP Top Scholar, and listed as an Academic All-Star in Chattanooga's CityScope Magazine. Understanding the value of extracurricular activities, Clayton excels in athletics; he has been named to the All District Baseball Team for three consecutive years and was a member of the state runner-up baseball team in 2010. He also donates his time for community service.
Margaret, daughter of Jim and Ann Rox, has been recognized by the faculty for her scholastic achievements; she received both the AP Language and Chemistry Awards her junior year. Margaret has been inducted into the National Honor Society and has been a Top Scholar since 6th grade. Margaret's extracurricular activities include an active role in student government, serving on the student council all four years in high school, playing soccer, serving as the drum major her junior and senior year, and earning a spot for the ETSBOA Senior Clinic Honor Band. This past summer Margaret was nominated to receive the Tommy Rorex Memorial Scholarship Award.

Congratulations to Andrew Peace who was
named National Merit Commended Student.
Boyd-Buchanan School is proud to announce that Andrew Peace has been named a National Merit Commended Student. During his secondary school years at BBS, Andrew's academic and extra-curricular successes have been many. A Top Scholar since 6th grade, he has also been awarded numerous class awards and been inducted to both the National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. The faculty selected Andrew to be the BBS representative to Boys' State and to receive the Tommy Rorex Memorial Leadership Award. This year, Andrew was a Discus Award winner, an award which recognizes those students who are committed to excellence in the areas of academics, athletics, and community service. With a commitment to serving the BBS community, Andrew has served all four years on student council, has acted as both student ambassador and mentor, and has participated on several mission trips to Mexico. His community service extends beyond school; he has volunteered his time and worked with Chattanooga's Kids on the Block, Erlanger Hospital, and participated in service projects through both the Boy Scouts and his church. Andrew's extra-curricular activities include playing three varsity sports and playing trumpet for the concert band.
