Replacement Procedures

If the iPad2 your child has registered to him/her is damaged, the first step a parent needs to take is to let either Jeremy Womack or Jan Akins see the iPad2 and record the damage. The second step is to be aware of Apple approved replacement options as listed below. Please note, there are no third party repair options. Third party repairs nullify all warranties. All replacements MUST come through BBS and AppleCare.

  1. With no insurance coverage, turn the iPad2 into BBS, and it will be replaced through AppleCare for a charge of $269 to the family.*
  2. If you have chosen to cover the iPad2 through Worth Avenue, return the device to BBS, and BBS will facilitate the replacement process. The only EDIT charge to the family should be the deductible.*
  3. A parent may take a damaged iPad2 to the Apple Store in Knoxville for replacement of the device for $269 through AppleCare.*

*In accordance with the AUP there is a $25 setup charge incurred for all cases 1-4.

Three important preventative measures every parent needs to consider

1.) purchase insurance Worth Avenue Group has a webpage setup specifically for BBS families at http://bit.ly/bbsworthave.  Other companies include Safeware, SquareTrade, your homeowners, etc.

2.) buy a durable case MacAuthority at Hamilton Place offers the “Survivor” case by Griffen. Retail price is $69.99, but MA will offer the case to our students for $39. In order to take advantage of that offer, take the BBS iPad2 to the MA store so they can verify the BBS asset tag on the back of the device. This is a special agreement between BBS iPad2 holders and MacAuthority only. A second option is the “Defender” case by Otterbox which can be purchased through various vendors. A good case should be a one-time purchase that will last over several years.

3.) educate your child We encourage parents to remind students to NEVER leave the iPad2 unattended, ALWAYS store it carefully in a safe place such as a locker or a classroom the teacher has locked, and remember a backpack is not a secure or safe location in most instances. As a family, please read the Acceptable Use Policy that you signed at the beginning of school to review what a student is allowed and not allowed to do on the iPad2. To review this document, you may go to the school webpage at www.bbschool.org and to High School or Middle School/Policies/AUP.
