Bible Instruction

Bible courses at Boyd Buchanan take on many shapes and forms as we seek to shape students' minds in ways that allow students to walk with the Lord and understand His will in their lives. Lower School students build basic Biblical knowledge while beginning to understand how to be like Christ in all ways. As students enter middle and upper school daily Bible courses take on more challenging topics of living a faith-filled life. In all areas of school, students and faculty seek to serve others as the hands and feet of Christ. It is our prayer that these experiences in service and Bible instruction will empower students to leave the BBS campus prepared to share Jesus with the world.

Middle School

Our mission is to nurture the spiritual potential of each student in our Middle School. Our goal is to help prepare our students to embrace a life of faith, while providing opportunities in the moment to allow students to walk with the Lord in their current circumstances. Through daily Bible instruction, we lead students through the narrative of the Old Testament and the life of Christ, and then use that narrative foundation to help students learn how to make God honoring decisions in the moment. Through Service Learning Opportunities, we provide avenues for students to leave the classroom, and find ways to serve the greater Chattanooga community in a way that teaches faithfulness and a love for God through serving others. Through weekly chapel experiences, we help students embrace a life of worship in large group settings. Additionally, we help to form our students spiritually through each teacher intentionally pointing students to God, whether by embracing faith while teaching in their content area, or by informally modeling Christ through their life and actions.

Upper School

Our mission as a school includes helping our students participate in a life which embraces life’s challenges while walking with our Lord, Jesus Christ. This is accomplished through intentional relationships and activities which lead toward Spiritual Formation. Formally this is accomplished through daily Bible classes in which the stories and teachings of the Bible, from creation and ancient Israel all the way through the life of Christ and the early Church, are used as a narrative guide to inform a Christian Worldview focused on a love of God and others. Students also participate in weekly chapel experiences and multiple service opportunities in which we learn to live into our calling to love others as Christ has loved us. Spiritual formation also happens informally on campus: through relationships with teachers and coaches, through seeing why faith is important not just in Bible class, but in science, math, and language arts, and through opportunities to engage the greater community of Chattanooga through service and love. Both formally and informally, we hope to create an environment in which students are nurtured into a faith walk with the Lord.
